Up, Up, and Away – Rockets!

Class Descriptions

All Things Algebra

This class will spend the first day reviewing arithmetic topics (See All Things Arithmetic).  Other topics taught throughout the week will be how to use order of operations, solving one and two step equations, solving word problems (application).  Taught by Lindsey Small who teaches Algebra I and II at OBA and has her Master’s degree in Mathematics.

All Things Arithmetic

This class will focus on reviewing/learning how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and negative numbers.  Each day, we will focus on a group of numbers using hands-on tools to help bring the concepts alive and reinforce memory.  Taught by Lindsey Small who teaches Algebra I and II at OBA and has her Master’s degree in Mathematics.

Around the World

Students will explore life on different continents and different countries.  We will learn about cultures, animals, and different foods.  We will journey throughout the world and see the endless possibilities and experiences that different countries have to offer.  Taught by Gina Mendenhall who has seven years of teaching experience and Janean Reese, a 3rd grade teacher at Emmanuel Christian School.

Breakfast, Bears, and Book Club

We will travel deep into the forest and join Hugless Douglas and his friends for a fun adventure.  This camp will include a light breakfast, craft, and a Hugless Douglas book study.  Pajamas are allowed.  Taught by Melodee Schneider, a 5th grade teacher at Emmanuel Christian School.

Cardio Kids

This class is a fun place to exercise and learn about healthy living.  We will also enjoy fun games, books, and snacks.  Taught by Rachel Dorrell who has her personal training certification.

Christmas in July (offered for two different age groups)

Baking during the Christmas season is so much fun!  We will learn how to make delicious candies, cookies, and so much more.  When Christmas comes around, you will be ready with some yummy recipes.  Taught by Audra Beagley who teaches art at Emmanuel Christian School and loves to cook and bake.

CPR and First Aid

We will be learning CPR through the American Heart Association.  When we are finished with the class, the student will receive a certification card by email.  We will also learn general principles of medical emergencies and injuries.  Class size is limited to 10 students.  Taught by Rachel Dorrell, certified by the American Heart Association.

Early Elementary Artists

Create original works of art using several types of art media.  Students will use clay, paint, draw, and design sculpture!  Taught by Gina Menasco who has a degree in art education.

Elementary/Intermediate Mixed-Media Art

In the June session, students will learn how to draw optical illusions, make a weaving loom out of clay, paint on a canvas, create a 3D sculpture, and more.  In the July session, students will learn how to use a pottery wheel to make their own pots to glaze, still-life painting, printmaking, and other projects.  Taught by Gina Menasco who has a degree in art education.

Improv (offered for two different age groups):

Improvisation, or improv, is a form of live theatre in which the plot, characters, and dialogue of a game, scene, or story are made up in the moment.  Come laugh, express, connect, and learn many theatrical tools that can be crossed over into any realm of life.  Say “Yes, and…” to improv taught by April Morrow, graduate of UCB, Groundlings, and IO West, the three leading improvisational schools in the country.

Landscape Art

Students will create their own landscapes with chalk pastels.  Students will also experience en plein air painting.  Taught by Lacye Russell who has a BFA and MFA in Studio Arts and is the art teacher at OBA.

Learning Can Be Yummy

We will learn to make yummy things your whole family will enjoy.  We will be making and frosting a cake from scratch, homemade pizza crust, garlic steak bites and so much more.  Taught by Janet Moore who loves to share her love of cooking with others.

Learning Proper Etiquette and Manners

In a world of crazy schedules, busy moms and dads don’t always have time to focus on teaching etiquette.  Let me help teach and reinforce basic social etiquette including interpersonal skills, communication, dining etiquette and table manners, first impressions, consideration towards others, etc. in a fun, hands-on environment.  This is designed to develop strong social skills that will help your child become a leader of tomorrow.  Taught by Kristina Morgan Pasby, 1st grade teacher at Chisholm Elementary School.

Mad Scientist

You will have fun learning in this hands-on science class.  Each day has its own theme with experiments and activities for your young scientist.  It will be five days of science FUN through experiments, games, projects, and exploring.  Taught by Kristina Morgan Pasby, 1st grade teacher at Chisholm Elementary School.

Mastering Middle-School

Are you academically prepared for middle-school?  Do you know what you need to know?  Do you need a summer refresher?  This interesting class will help prepare you for sixth grade and the expectations that come along with it.  Taught by Sumer Warnock, 6th grade teacher at OBA.

Monotypes with Gelli Plates

Students will learn the technique of monotypes.  Students will create 1-of-a-kind artworks in a process that is very similar to painting.  No experience necessary.  Taught by Lacye Russell who has a BFA and MFA in Studio Arts and is the art teacher at OBA.

Oil Painting

Students will learn how to paint with oil paints.  Students will also learn how to use glazes and learn the technique of impasto.  An art show will conclude the week-long class.  Taught by Lacye Russell who has a BFA and MFA in Studio Arts and is the art teacher at OBA.

Tasty Treats

We will make fun and tasty foods like cookies, banana split sundae cups, pizza pinwheels, and much more.  Each day we will eat what we made and take some home to share with your family.  Taught by Janet Moore who loves to share her love of cooking with others.

TI-84 Workshop

Students will learn how to use the Texas Instrument 84.  We will cover all the basic keys, plus graphing an equation, finding relative max and min’s, intersections, zeros/roots, tables, line of best fit and more.  This class is taught by Algebra I and II instructor at OBA who has a Master’s of Science in Mathematics. Students will need to bring their own TI-84 calculator to the class.

Ukulele Fun

You will have a fun week learning to play the Ukulele and accompanying yourself singing!  We will learn several basic cords and how to tune a Ukulele.  Each student will need to bring their own soprano Ukulele for class.  Taught by Valora Unruh, music teacher at Emmanuel Christian School.

Under the Sea

Come dive deep into the ocean and explore all of God’s amazing sea creatures!  It will be a fun time of learning, snacking, crafting, and exploring.  Taught by Melodee Schneider, a 5th grade teacher at Emmanuel Christian School.

Up, Up, and Away – Rockets!

Join me for an exciting week of space infusion!  We will learn about space travel history while we build REAL three-feet tall rockets using cardboard, balsa wood, and glue.  On the last day, we will launch our rockets!  Taught by Valora Unruh, former 5th grade teacher at Emmanuel Christian School and lover of science.
